Thursday Thoughts

by Rachel

Paul entered a contest through 2Toms (OK, I entered it for him) - the "Worst Blister Challenge"... as soon as I saw it I knew he could win! If he gets the most votes, he wins 1 SportShield roll-on 1.5ounce, 1 ButtShield roll-on 1.5ounce,1 BlisterShield 8 ounce, 1 BlisterShield 32 ounce, 1 StinkFree Shoe Spray bottle, 1 48-count SportShield towelettes, 1 48-count BlisterShield Trial Size, 1 10 pak Stink Free Sports Detergent Packettes, 1 Stink Free Sports Detergent 30 oz Bottle - whew!

I'll leave the blister picture on their website - but if you want to see the magnificence and vote for Paul's toe, please head on over there!

Speaking of blisters, I have been told I need to become an expert on fixing blisters, since I'm Paul's crew for the SD100. One of Paul's pacers (keithski) suggested the book "Fixing Your Feet" - so I have it on hold at the library - I'll be interested to see all that's in there.

In the meantime, I googled a bit and found the blister care section on the Badwater website - if anyone knows about blisters, it's the people involved with the Badwater race! I found out a lot just by reading this page, plus the two referenced at the bottom of the page. I guess I need to put together a good blister kit before June!

Any advice on dealing with painful blisters during races???

  1. I am not an ultrarunner but my boyfriend Matt Davis is and I have crewed/volunteered at several races. His favorite method of blister care is to pop it, rinse it and bandage it (usually with a bandaid and them medical tape all around the area so the bandaid doesn't move). However, he only does that if his blister is too painful to run with. He doesn't ever take off his shoes unless he has to. Good luck to Paul! We'll be heading up the Stonewall Mine aid station and can't wait to see him out there! :)

    1. Hi Stephanie! What do you rinse it with?
Thanks for the info - I'll take it!
I'm hoping that Paul's feet will be well taken care of and we'll prevent any issues - but I want to be prepared of course!
I'll see you up there too - going to be crewing for Paul so I'll be at all the crew-accessible aid stations :)
